Another example of virtual reality’s growing importance arrived today with Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) announcement that the Gaming & Virtual Reality Marketplace will be 77% larger at CES 2016 (running from January 6–9 in Las Vegas) than it was at CES 2015.
CES 2016 will also feature the addition of the Augmented Reality Marketplace, which will occupy a minimum of 3,000 net square feet of exhibit space. Participating companies will include ASRC Federal for NASA, Marxent and Occipital.
The Gaming & Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality Marketplaces will be located adjacent to each other at CES Tech East, in South Hall 2 of the Las Vegas Convention and World Trade Center.
According to research by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), which owns and produces CES, sales of virtual reality headsets are expected to increase by 500% over 2015, reaching 1.2 million units sold. Total revenues of those sales are projected to reach $540 million, a 440% increase by the end of 2015.
