VideoInk and OpenSlate have teamed up to create the Video Marketing Excellence (VMX) Awards, an awards program aimed at recognizing the brand and content marketers pushing the bounds of video as a medium. To separate the all stars from the masses, VideoInk and OpenSlate have appointed industry tastemakers to judge the submissions.
The inaugual Judges Panel includes:
- John McCarus: Chief Strategy Officer, Lin Digital
- Justin Danko: VP Sales & Partnerships, Fuisz Media, Inc.
- Russ Axelrod: President, Turf
- Chet Fenster: Managing Partner, MEC
- Beth Greve: Chief Revenue and Partnerships Officer, Awesomeness TV
- Kathryn Friedrich: Head of Global Content Commercialization, YouTube/Google
- Rebecca Paoletti: CEO, Co-Founder, CakeWorks
“Brands are increasingly becoming a part of the content ecosystem, leveraging creativity, data and distribution to create meaningful experiences for their audience.With the VMX awards, we’re going to highlight video content innovation by marketers.” said Mike Henry, CEO of OpenSlate.
“We’ve been expanding our events business since 2014 and this is one of many tentpole events that we’ll host throughout the year,” added VideoInk founder Jocelyn Johnson. “But the big picture is that we’re in the business of surfacing important news and content that is shaping the video industry and celebrating the standout campaigns that set high standards for tomorrow.”
Submissions for the VMX Awards opened on September 21st and will run until the end of November, at which point the judges will deliberate on the winners, who will be announced at a special invite-only awards dinner in New York City in January 2016.

Best branded video web series that is a scripted, (episodic) original. Effective in branding, evangelizing, educating, or driving sales among target audience.
Best Branded Live Event (includes Meerkat/Periscope)
Best concept and execution of a branded live, in-person event. Effectively achieves branding objectives by seamlessly extending a live event to an online audience.
Best Multi-Platform Marketing:
Best multi-platform marketing campaign, executed over two or more video platforms, to brand, evangelize, entertain, or drive sales among target audience.
Best Video Campaign: Campaigns should encourage interaction and brand engagement.
Best video campaign, successful in encouraging interaction and brand engagement, as well as branding, evangelizing, educating, or driving sales among target audience.
Best Creative In-Stream Ad: Skippable or Non-skippable
Best skippable or non-skippable in-stream video creative, successful in encouraging interaction and brand engagement, as well as branding, evangelizing, educating, or driving sales among target audience.
Best Marketer-Driven Influencer Video Content or Campaign
Best marketer-driven collaboration with an influencer to effectively achieve campaign goals with native digital video
Best Emerging Brand YouTube Channel*
