SlingTV, the web based pay TV service from Dish Network, has announced its latest sports programming endeavor, Campus Insiders, a network from Silver Chalice Ventures that will provide live streaming access to college sporting events.
The new channel will be part of Sling’s new “Sports Extra” package and will be available on any devices that currently support SlingTV. Among the premium live content accessible through Campus Insiders is the NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl, featuring teams from the Mountain West Conference and Conference USA, at Arizona Stadium on December 29.
The move to deliver more live college sports content reflects a larger trend in the digital space that has seen live programming take center stage on multiple platforms. In most cases, this move toward live is led by sports where demand for real time content is among the strongest. CBS Sports recently revealed that it would stream portions of the regular NFL season live in partnership with the league. Meanwhile, the NFL itself has amped up efforts to deliver streaming live game footage only to premium subscribers. Also notable, a significant number of start-ups have emerged to deliver live content from a variety of niche and international sports.
