Vimeo doubled down on its commitment to original content today with the announcement of its first ever slate of original series for Vimeo On demand.
Vimeo has commissioned several original series, including a new season of LGBT dramedy “The Outs” from creators Adam Goldman and Sasha Winers, the short film “Darby Forever” from “SNL” breakout star Aidy Bryant, and Bianca Del Rio’s “Rolodex of Hate Comedy Special: Live From Austin,” featuring the “Ru Paul’s Drag Race” season six winner. All three will premiere this winter on Vimeo’s SVOD service, Vimeo On Demand.
Vimeo CEO Kerry Trainor praised the new batch of originals in a statement, saying, “This new slate of Vimeo Originals exemplifies the fresh, unique voices of Vimeo creators who are propelling online storytelling and entertainment to new levels of quality,“ Trainor went on to highlight the advantages that Vimeo offers emerging creators, adding, “Vimeo empowers today’s brightest talent to develop their best work, with total creative freedom, and bring it directly to Vimeo’s worldwide audience with no interruptive advertising.”
Vimeo seems to have hit its stride with original pickups. The streamer made waves resurrecting acclaimed web series “High Maintenance,” which ran its second season on Vimeo before being picked up by HBO, and backing YouTube star Taryn Southern in her directorial debut. More recently, Vimeo grabbed two original series from New Form Digital’s incubator program, taking pilots from YouTube stars PJ Ligouri and Sawyer Hartman to series.
