Netflix, Amazon and other major streamers have gotten reams of press about how they’re upending traditional network and movie studio models. But, creatively-speaking, the real revolution is happening on platforms specializing in user-generated content (UGC), creating new genres (vlogging, unboxing, game play-throughs, etc.) that could never have been sold in a Hollywood pitch meeting.
The 800-pound gorilla in the UGC space is still YouTube and, in order to maintain that status, the Google-owned video hosting platform has to constantly refresh its feature set, whether that means adding mobile live streaming capabilities to its Twitch competitor YouTube Gaming or new locations to its global collection of YouTube Space creator hubs.
Today, it unveiled an update for its YouTube Creator Studio app that includes an interface redesign to make analytics more consistent and easier to read, along with several top requested features.
The update includes:
- New Analytics– Creators can now look at more than 50 new analytics insights to help them better understand their audience and channel performance. For example, they can now see where their views come from and the top search terms.
- Monetization Controls — Creators can now turn on video monetization and choose from multiple ad formats directly from the Creator Studio app.
- Playlist Management– Creators can now edit playlists as well as add and remove videos from playlists on the go.
