Film/TV distributor and multi-channel network The Orchard announced today that it has inked a distribution deal with Nitro Circus, the action sports entertainment collective led by 17-time X-Games medalist Travis Pastrana.
Under the terms of the deal, The Orchard will have worldwide distribution rights to Nitro Circus’ eight-film back catalog and three upcoming releases, which it will make available to purchase as a digital downloads and rent to stream on-demand on a multitude of outlets.
The first film to be released through pact is “Action Figures,” written, directed and produced by Pastrana. Premiering today, it features more than 20 “world’s first tricks, and every action sports athlete involved in their execution — from Josh Sheehan and Jolene Van Vugt to James Foster and Thomas Pagès — a were involved in the editing process.
Nitro Circus was founded in 2003 when motorsports star Pastrana and friends Jeremy Rawle and Gregg Godfrey began producing a stunt-filled DVD series that eventually evolved into one of MTV’s reality show “Travis and The Nitro Circus.” In 2010, took the show on the road with “Nitro Circus Live,” a motocross stunt show that travels the globe. In 2015, it partnered with NBC Sports Ventures for a new reality show “Nitro Circus: Crazy Train,” debuting on NBCSN in October 2015, as well a series of TV specials that will air nationally in the U.S. on NBC and NBCSN well as stream on NBC Sports Live Extra.
The Orchard has been digitally distributing video since 1997. Its online network features YouTube channels such as The Orchard Movies, where it offers its titles for rent or digital download. (Nitro Circus will titles will not be available on The Orchard’s YouTube channels.) In June, it inked a deal with Jay and Mark Duplass’ Duplass Brothers Productions to distribute seven films produced by the filmmakers.
