“Red vs Blue,” the long-running sci-fi comedy series from Austin-based digital studio Rooster Teeth, is getting new life on linear television, thanks to a deal with El Rey Network.
The digital series, which utilizes characters from the popular Halo gaming series re-contextualized into comedy scenarios, is the longest running sci-fi comedy series on the web. The series’ 13 short-form seasons have been repackaged into 95 half-hour episodes formatted for television consumption that will debut on El Rey Network on Dec. 5.
“I’ve been wanting to carve out an animated component to El Rey’s lineup and this was just the perfect fit for the network,” said El Rey founder and chairman Robert Rodriguez in a statement. “’Red vs. Blue’ is cool, quirky, badass and a little off-beat.”
The deal comes on the heels of news that another Rooster Teeth property, the live action-comedy feature “Lazer Team,” would join the originals lineup on YouTube’s newly launched SVOD service YouTube Red.
