Hulu announced today that it has renewed its original series “East Los High” for a fourth season with a 12-episode order.
Although “East Los High” hasn’t received the attention of other Hulu originals such as “Desperate People” and “Casual,” it is the VOD service’s first to be renewed for a fourth season, making it the platform’s most enduring series, if not its most successful.
Produced by Wise Entertainment and created by Carlos Portugal and Kathleen Bedoya, the series focuses on the lives of students at an East Los Angeles high school.
The first season of “East Los High” was financed entirely by non-profit organizations, primarily Population Media Center, an organization dedicated to using media to affect social change around the world. Hulu came onboard as a financing partner for subsequent seasons.
Earlier this year, “East Los High” scored a pair of Daytime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Performer in a New Approaches Drama Series for cast members Vannessa Vasquez and Danielle Vega.
The series is produced by Katie Elmore Mota, along with Mauricio Mota and creators Portugal and Bedoya. Carlos Reza and Troy Combs are co-executive-producers.
