Awards show aficionados tired of trading tweets with online amateurs who confuse snark with wit will have a new second screen experience to try out for “The 73rd Golden Globe Awards” on Sunday.
Interactive video platform Smiletime and Persiciope channel Parachute TV are partnering for a live stream viewing party on awards night that is being billed as part talk show, part “live event tweet-storm.”
Broadcast live from Smiletime’s new studios in Culver City, Ca., on Jan. 10 beginning at 8 p.m. ET, it will feature comedians Sammy Obeid (“Last Comic Standing”) and Neel Nanda (Comedy Central, Viceland), Donald Trump impersonator Kyle Kittleson, Lezl Peters (“Huffington Post Live”), fashion expert Erin Tillman and radio/TV host Brad Silnutzer.
Smiletime is an platform that enables people to connect through multiple camera feeds from multiple locations around the world. Producers can integrate live polls, games, transactions and other interactive features into their broadcasts. Smiletime is home to AnnaLynne McCord’s interactive Smilecast “Truth,” video game fan hub “Twin Galaxies Live,” and creators including Jake & Amir, Lucas Neff, John Lehr and Manny Pacquiao.
Created by TV host Jon Erlichman, writer Seth Cohen (NBC’s “Undateable”) and producer/actor Caroline Lesley, Parachute TV offers 50 weekly scheduled shows on Periscope. Since its launch in August 2015, it has attracted more than 300,000 live viewers with programming that has included live coverage of the “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” premiere, filmmaker Quentin Tarantino’s handprint ceremony in front of the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, and the Palm Springs International Film Festival.
Cable network E! Entertainment is encouraging viewers to mount their own Golden Globes viewing parties on Periscope on Sunday and use the #EPartyscopes hashtag for a chance to have a portion of their live stream featured on E! Online.
