Last month, at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival, Vimeo announced that it is rolling out “Share the Screen,” a three-part initiative to elevate and empower female filmmakers. Today, the video hosting platform announced another diversity effort, this time focused on the LGBT community.
Vimeo has partnered with LGBT media and marketing strategy firm Here Media to spotlight work by LGBT filmmakers. The deal also allows Vimeo to directly target LGBT consumers through marketing campaigns that will run across Here Media’s brand platforms, including The Advocate, OUT, Pride.com, Here TV, and Plus magazine.
The first film from the partnership is writer/director Billy Clift’s (“Baby Jane?”) comedic thriller “Hush Up Sweet Charlotte” (pictured), a parody of the Bette Davis cult classic, starring Mink Stole, David Millbern and Varla Jean Merman. It premiered on Vimeo On Demand on Monday.
It will be followed by “Out West,” director Lee Brownstein’s comedy about celebutante Prissy Alcott, who leaves her life in Reno behind to return to her childhood home in Colorado and save the family ranch with the help of her three gay friends. It stars Jennifer Elyse Cox, Sean Astin and Daniel Baldwin.
