Endemol Beyond’s Icon Network has arrived in Germany with a different name, accompanied by a linear TV spin-off.
Parent company Endemol Shine Group has partnered with Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) and fashion brand ASOS to create a multi-platform local-language version of the lifestyle network, which premiered in the U.S. and the U.K. in March 2015.
The German adaptation, named FLiP, launched a YouTube channel on Monday. Tonight, a linear TV series adaption of the same name will debut in Deutschland tonight on Viacom’s Nicknight channel.
Endemol describes the Icon Network as being “creatively led” by Michelle Phan, who has more than 8.37M subscribers and 1.23B views on YouTube. But, as the video above demonstrates, she’s not exactly German language fluent. So FLiP will feature a collection of local German influencers including Mel (AMissMelle/Vanellimelli), Melissa (BreedingUnicorns), Mirella (Mirellativegal) Hatice (Hatice Schmidt) and Regina (Regina Hickst/baby).
“The launch of FLiP marks the next step in the growth of Endemol Beyond as we bring one of our digital formats to television for the first time,” Georg Ramme, global managing director of Endemol Beyond, said in a statement.
The Icon Network is now being locally adapted in 16 markets with further launches will be announced soon.
Launched by Endemol in 2013, Endemol Beyond USA is a multi-channel network that produces and distributes video content across a range of platforms, including YouTube, Yahoo, AOL, Roku, Dailymotion and Amazon Fire TV. It has local hubs in the U.S., U.K., Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain, as well as in Asia, Latin America and Central and Eastern Europe. In addition to Icon, it has also franchised the formats Legends of Gaming and Rule’m Sports in multiple international markets.
