On the heels of yesterday’s appointment of Maker Studios’ Bonnie Pan as the new president of Endemol Beyond USA, parent company Endemol Shine Group has announced that Georg Ramme is stepping down as both managing director of Endemol Beyond Germany and global managing director of Endemol Beyond International. He will depart in May after a handover period.
The role of managing director of Endemol Beyond Germany will be filled by Michael Kollatschny (pictured, left), head of TV and talent for Twitter Germany, who will assume the post on May 1. The company’s international digital business will continue to be overseen by Wim Ponnet, group director of commercial and strategy
It will be a homecoming of sorts for Kollatschny, who served as head of reality, docu and factual at Endemol from January 2013 to July 2014.
Ramme (pictured, right) oversaw Endemol Beyond’s expansion from a local German video hub for Dutch-based TV producer Endemol (now Endemol Shine Group) — producer of such international TV franchises as “Big Brother” and “Wipeout” — to a global digital initiative.
Launched with a $40 million investment in November 2013, Endemol Beyond aimed to create high-end productions distributed across multiple digital platforms, including YouTube, Yahoo, AOL, MSN and Dailymotion.
That same month, former Maker Studios director of programming Will Keenan was named president of Endemol Beyond USA. During his tenure, the onetime indie film actor and producer signed a mix of mainstream and digital native talent to content deals, including rapper Pitbull, Michelle Phan, Andy Milonakis, Brittany Furlan, Courtney Love, former “Sopranos” star (and longtime friend) Drea De Matteo.
Keenan departed Endemol Beyond USA in August, and Endemol Beyond USA COO Adrian Sexton was appointed interim president. Sexton will now report to Pan.
In the months since Keenan’s departure, Endemol Beyond’s most notable effort has been the expansion of Michelle Phan’s Icon Network, which launched in the U.S. and the U.K. in March 2015 and debuted in Germany last month on both digital and linear TV platforms. It is currently being locally adapted in 16 additional markets. Endemol Beyond has also franchised the formats Legends of Gaming and Rule’m Sports in multiple international markets.
