The traditional agencies are continuing to sign digital talent as more creators look for the traditional representation that is not necessarily offered by digital studios and multi-channel networks. Abrams Artists Agency (AAA) has quietly been in the digital space for years, under the leadership of Alec Shankman, in LA, and Mark Turner, in New York. And today, the agency has announced that Jack Baran (ThatsSoJack), “Doctor Mike” Varshavski and Jimmy DiResta are the latest additions to the Abrams roster, for representation in multiple areas under the alternative programming and digital media department.
According to Tubular Labs, ThatsoJack has a social reach of over 4.1 million followers unduplicated across all platforms. He’s perhaps best categorized as Tyler Oakley 2.0 as a creator who generally comments on pop culture and shares life hacks with his followers. New York City-based medical resident “Doctor Mike” Varshavski has accumulated over 1.5 million followers on Instagram for being a real-life “McSteamy,” or maybe it’s “McDreamy.” Either way, People Magazine selected Varshavski as their “Sexiest Doctor Alive.”
He may not be a medical doctor, but the third digital star joining Abrams is master craftsman, Jimmy DiResta, who refurbishes items like a truck bed into a bookshelf or a bike into a desk (see above). And his track record is perhaps most impressive, having driven over 50 million videos views from his 500K subscribers and other viewers in only six months since shifting from linear television where he hosted over 5 different shows including “Dirty Money,” “Trash to Cash” and “Hammered.”
Abrams’ alternative programming and digital media department has teams in both New York and Los Angeles.
