Amazon announced today that it has signed a multi-year output deal with indie producer Broad Green Pictures to make Prime Video the exclusive premium subscription home for its slate of theatrical features, including last year’s “A Walk in the Woods,” starring Robert Redford, Nick Nolte and Emma Thompson.
Broad Green Pictures is a feature film financing, production and distribution company launched in 2014 by billionaire Gabriel Hammond, founder of the hedge fund Alerian Capital, and his younger brother Daniel. It focuses on films with budgets in the $2.5 million to $25 million range.
The deal will bring previous Broad Green releases to Prime Video including “99 Homes,” starring Andrew Garfield, Laura Dern and Michael Shannon; “I Smile Back,” starring Sarah Silverman; “Learning to Drive,” starring Patricia Clarkson and Ben Kingsley; and “Knight of Cups.”
The deal will also cover upcoming releases such as “The Infiltrator,” opening July 15, which stars Bryan Cranston as Robert Mazur, an undercover U.S. Customs agent who brought down the largest drug and money laundering operation in U.S. history, as well as Lucy Walker’s follow-up documentary “Buena Vista Social Club — Adios,” which looks into the changes Buena Vista Social Club musicians have experienced since director Wim Wenders’ 1999 doc turned them into international sensations.
“The titles that we have released previously on Amazon have had great success, both in DVD and Blu-Ray, as well as streaming on-demand on Amazon Video,” said Steve Nickerson, president of home entertainment at Broad Green Pictures, in a statement “Working with Amazon to share our titles on Prime Video now gives us the ability to strategically promote our films across more platforms, to reach even more viewers,”
Broad Green’s slate of upcoming films includes “Brain on Fire,” “The Dark Horse” and “Bad Santa 2,” the latter of which is a co-production with Miramax. The studio will also release Terrence Malick’s “Voyage of Time” and his untitled project starring Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara and Michael Fassbender.
