If the pending sale of AwesomenessTV’s majority stakeholder DreamWorksTV to NBCUniversal is creating any turmoil or uncertainty behind the scenes for the Gen Z-targeting multi-platform production company, it wasn’t apparent at their NewFront presentation at Spring Studios in New York City on Wednesday evening.
AwesomenessTV boasted that it has expanded to over 31 platforms — including the just-launched Apple TV app and the AwesomenessTV bot, which debuted today on the chat app Kik — and it is tripling its premium content output on Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat.
For the analytics-obsessed in the crowd, AwesomenessTV had two new methods of targeting Gen Z audiences with branded content. The company announced it is partnering with video data and technology company Zefr on Signal, a multi-platform distribution program that will align AwesomenessTV branded content with the most relevant videos. It also revealed that it will be using Brightline’s proprietary technology to create and serve interactive branded experiences across the connected TV/OTT universe.
AwesomenessTV also announced two additional seasons for its YouTube series “Royal Crush,” starring Meg DeAngelis, and its Go90 series “Guidance,” and a new series for Go90 — “t@gged,” an 11-part psychological thriller starring Lia Marie Johnson (“Expelled”), Lulu Antariksa (“What Still Remains”), Katelyn Nacon (“The Walking Dead”) and Jc Caylen (“Boo! A Madea Halloween”) — that has already been greenlit for a second season. It is also collaborating with Major League Baseball on a multi-episode original scripted series designed to reframe the baseball experience for Gen Z.
AwesomenessTV’s family-oriented YouTube channel DreamWorksTV announced its first live event production, “Kids’ Game Awards,” a digital show honoring kids’ favorite video games that will be held in front of a live audience in October. Produced by Geoff Keighley (“The Game Awards”) and supported by an advisory board of industry leaders including Activision, Nintendo and Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment, it will feature special appearances by celebrities, gamers, digital influencers and musical guests.
The company also revealed that influencers GloZell Green, Molly Sims, Leah Ashley, Nikki Baker and Tammin Sursok have joined Awestruck, its digital network target millennial moms, which already includes such high-profile personalities as Zoe Saldana, Kandee Johnson and Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi.
“At AwesomenessTV our focus is on telling great stories across all the platforms that engage our audiences,” said Brian Robbins, CEO and co-founder of AwesomenessTV. “We are creating premium content experiences that are true to the audience, and if brands can join us in the process, it’s a win for everyone.”
Joining Robbins on AwesomenessTV NewFront stage were company president Brett Bouttier, “t@gged” co-stars Jc Caylen and Lia Marie Johnson, Awesomeness Films star Kian Lawley, host of DreamWorksTV’s “Life Hacks for Kids” Sunny Keller, Awestruck’s Kandee Johnson, and YouTube star, best-selling author and “Amazing Race” competitor Tyler Oakley.
Today, AwesomenessTV also revealed that it has hired former Discovery Communications exec Rebecca Glasgow in the newly-created role of head of worldwide distribution. Reporting to chief digital officer Kelly Day, she will oversee teams in L.A., New York and London negotiating distribution deals for the company’s digital, linear TV and feature content.
