The official Comic-Con International SVOD service, Comic-Con HQ, isn’t the only place to stream the behind-the-scenes content from the annual fan fest being held at the San Diego Convention Center through July 24.
Circa, a new online video news and entertainment site launched this week, announced today that it is teaming with millennial-targeting multi-platform production company Defy Media’s entertainment news network Clevver to produce news dispatches from the event.
Circa will distribute and promote the segments via Circa.com and its social channels on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. It will also leverage Defy’s media and social networks, which reach 125 million viewers monthly.
Defy Media was formed in the fall of 2013 with the merger of Break Media and Alloy Digital. It is home to the comedy duo Smosh (Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla), which has over 30 million subscribers to its YouTube channels. Other channels under the Defy umbrella include Screen Junkies, humor site Break and men’s lifestyle destination Made Man .
Circa LLC is an independent company formed last fall, funded by Sinclair Digital Ventures, a subsidiary of Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc., the largest television broadcaster in the United States and largest local news producer.
Circa’s original content has included an animated prediction of what the first Donald Trump-Hillary Clinton debate will look like and the documentary “Seized,” which won the Anthem Film Festival’s top short-form documentary award last weekend in Las Vegas.
In addition to their streaming coverage, Circa and Clevver will also produce an evening newscast segment about Comic=Con for Sinclair Broadcast Group channels.
