The National Football League (NFL)’s Discover Channel debuted on Snapchat today, just in time for tonight’s season kick-off, with featurettes including “5 Reason to be Excited Football is Back,” “4 Things to Know About Tonight’s Epic Super Bowl Rematch,” “A Day in the Life of The Manning Brothers” and “Top 5 Fantasy Pickups to Win Your League.”
The NFL will also be producing a Live Story for each game during the 2016 season, including Super Bowl LI. Later today, it will debut the first, focusing on tonight’s Carolina-Denver game. Additional Live Stories — featuring a mix of fan-submitted Snaps and “inside access” content — will be produced for major NFL events such as the NFL Scouting Combine and NFL Draft.
The NFL and Snapchat also announced that they have created custom geofilters for all 32 NFL clubs that will be ready to use when the season kicks off tonight. The geofilters will enable Snapchat users at NFL stadiums, practice facilities and other select venues to apply team-specific, location-based art overlays to their snaps.
The NFL is the first sports league to have a presence on the social media app’s Discover platform, which features content from such publishers BuzzFeed, CNN, Comedy Central, Cosmopolitan, ESPN, Food Network, MTV, National Geographic, People, Refinery 29, Tastemade, Vice and the Wall Street Journal.
