The competitive market for OVP’s has constricted as more publishers rely on the native video products of the dominant streaming platforms like Facebook, YouTube, SnapChat and Instagram; not to mention the handful of publishers opting to build their own online video player.
JW Player, the OG-OVP, is upping its edge by pushing a feature that enables instant VR and 360 video publishing.
“The future is right here, right now for VR. We’ve designed easy to use tools to create an amazing immersive experience for our customers that will increase engagement and pull their audience into the next generation of storytelling,” said Chris Mahl, President and Chief Revenue Officer at JW Player.
Virtual reality is a white hot space right now, though somewhat still in its experimental phase. With JW Player’s new technology, the viewing and streaming experience for 360 video is not only seamless, according to a release announcing the tech, but publishers are able to use the plugin to stream the format into any app or video destination. Competitors like Ooyala and Brightcove offer a VR viewing technology on desktop and are not yet stacked to enable streaming within apps or OTT destinations not on desktop.
