Watchable, the subscription video product from Comcast, is continuing to pick up series from well known digital video studios. The latest — “Awesome Pet Thoughts” from Jukin Media.
The 20-episode comedy series applies voiceovers to live action clips characteristic of what you’d expect from Jukin Media’s library, and gives a narrative arc to the everyday struggles faced by humans. The first five episodes air today on Watchable.
“We wanted to create a humanlike world occupied only by pets. So we started conceptualizing what a modern-day sitcom would be strictly using pet content,” said Josh Entman, Cofounder and Chief Development Officer at Jukin Media, who leads original series development for Jukin. “Turns out, pets are just as ridiculous as the rest of us.”
Jukin Media has built its business around licensing and packaging clips for television and digital series. It also acquired The Pet Collective from Fremantle and within a year was able to massively expand the brand.
The series is part of Comcast Watchables Exclusives series — another major media’s attempt at funding or co-producing projects to add extra appeal for a viewing audience.
“We’re always asking our partners to push the envelope,” said Craig Parks, Vice President of Programming forWatchable. “The folks at Jukin have done the most amazing things with user generated footage and once again they’re finding a way to innovate and push the format forward.”
In looking at the series, it may be a stretch to call it “pushing the envelope” but hey, cats broke the internet once before, maybe they’ll do it again.
