Gunpowder&Sky, the new’ish studio from Van Toffler and Floris Bauer, is now in the business of comedy with a new mock-style weather reporting brand called WeatherFrom. The new format, which is being created with Caviar, an award-winning entertainment company, will feature comedians, in character, who deliver the weather reports with a twist.
At launch, G&S and Caviar have stacked over 14 comedians — Cierra Solis, Jackie Tohn, Mara Marini, Andrew Bowser, Brian Huskey, Brittany Snow (pictured left), Raymond Carr, Tory N. Thompson, Ricky Mabe, Alison Pill, Solomon Georgio, Bobby Stephenson, Rich Fulcher, Ryan Cartwright and Lauren Miller Rogen — to perform in what feels like an “Anchorman”-esque show.
”Weather reports can be quite boring, so we decided to flip it on its head, have comedians present it and make it something to look forward to every day — in a bite sizable format,” said Floris Bauer, President, Gunpowder & Sky. “It’s also a way for us to experiment with a new format across digital platforms, try out new characters, and work with a diverse group of emerging and established talent.”
G&S and Caviar are banking on the fact that 69% of people are checking weather on a regular basis and of those, certainly someone will want to watch a comedic take on the daily weather adventures. But to me, watching this format unfold seems like it will be an adventure in itself. To start it will air on its own destination site with video also rolling out on Facebook and YouTube.
