YouTube Red has reportedly been in discussions with Conan O’Brien’s camp to migrate the late-night news host into a more dedicated role on the premium subscription streaming service. Originally reported by The New York Post, the details are largely left to speculation.
However, in conjunction with declining ratings and Conan’s massive existing subscriber-base that reaches nearly 5 million, the shift could be of value for both parties. Post also notes Conan’s young demographic as a valuable overlap for YouTube Red.
The news also comes at a time when O’Brien’s contract term is approaching an end, and follows a recent comment by Turner Broadcasting Chief Executive John Martin that the network was evaluating moving O’Brien to a weekly instead of daily show.
Both parties declined to confirm or comment on the deal.
