Insurrection Media and Keshet Studios have announced the co-production of the paranormal young adult drama “The Dead Girls Detective Agency,” which is based on the HarperCollins book written by Suzy Cox. This initiative stems from the strategic framework between Insurrection and HarperCollins where key books are optioned and developed into digital video and linear television series.
“Reaching global millennial audiences with engaging stories, on both traditional and digital platforms, is key to our ongoing strategy. The Dead Girls Detective Agency achieves exactly this by offering universally relatable themes and supernatural undertones,” said Sebastian Burkhardt, SVP of Digital and Acquisitions for Keshet International, in a release. “This marks the beginning of what Keshet intends to be a successful and ongoing relationship with Insurrection.”
“The Dead Girls Detective Agency” is a who done it, coming-of-age love story about a young Manhattanite who wakes up in a glamorous hotel to discover that she’s dead and in purgatory. Her only hope of passing to the other side is in solving the mystery of her own murder with the help of others like herself.
Already on board for the adaptation is the TV writing team is Jerica Lieberman and Molly Margraf (ABC’s Mistresses).
“This fresh and scintillating story is perfect for millennial audiences; we’re exhilarated to be making the show with Keshet, Jerica & Molly,” said Jordanna Fraiberg, Head of Development, Insurrection Media.
“We are thrilled to be expanding our reach into digital television programming with The Dead Girls Detective Agency,” says Suzanne Murphy, President and Publisher, HarperCollins Children’s Books. “This strategic relationship with Insurrection allows us to share our authors’ content with young adult readers in a unique and accessible way.”
Production is set to begin in March.
