Univision has steadily increased its focus on digital-first distribution — with its digital channel “Flama”, the Univision Creator Network, the U-Lab, which supports the next generation of talent, and now with a new digital video site from Univision News called “Grandes Historias” (Great Stories).
Launching this coming weekend on April 15th, the platform will utilize Univision Communications’ resources to build interesting digital-first video stories based on human-interest topics. The first format to be released on “Grandes Historias” is feature-length documentary about the short life of baseball star José Delfín Fernández aptly titled “JDF 16: The Life of José Delfín Fernández”. The project was written and produced by Univision News Digital’s senior editor David C. Adams and digital journalist Laura Prieto Uribe.
The news further signals how traditional media outlets are scrambling to fit into the new digital paradigm and find audiences on mobile, digital and social channels.
