Disney’s Courtney Holt, who most recently worked for the company as EVP of media and strategy, has broken up with the conglomerate to pursue a relationship with Spotify. Holt will lead Spotify’s efforts around original video and podcast programming as he fills the role of vice president and head of Spotify Studios and Video. Holt will report to Stefan Blom, chief content officer at Spotify and will work out of the company’s Los Angeles offices. As of now, his start date is unknown.
Holt had worked for Disney since 2014 when he came over as part of the management team of Maker Studios, which was purchased by Disney for an estimated $675 million. By the end of 2016, when Maker was placed under oversight of a different division within Disney, Holt was shifted to a new role at the company as EVP of media and strategy where he reported to Kevin Mayer, senior EVP and chief strategy officer at Disney.
The hire comes just days after the departure of Tom Calderone, global head of content partnerships at Spotify.
