“The After Party,” a coming of age comedy produced for Netflix, has started production. Def Pictures, WorldStar Hip Hop, Hunting Lane Films and Live Nation Productions have begun principal photography for the project, which will is written and directed by Ian Edelman (“How To Make It In America”).
The film will shoot for 6 weeks in New York, including shooting at The Meadows Music and Arts Festival at Citi Field in Queens, and a live concert at The Gramercy Theater.
Starring Kyle Harvey, Teyana Talyor, Wiz Khalifa, French Montana, Blair Underwood and others, the film follows two best friends on their last night together trying to achieve a record deal before one heads to college and the other leaves for service in the military.
Other actors will include: Jordan Rock, Harrison Holzer (Better Living Through Chemistry, Sex Tape) and Shelley Hennig (Teen Wolf) and will feature a number of cameos with top personalities from the world of rap, hip hop and comedy.
Lee “Q” O’Denat, the late founder of WorldStar Hip Hop, was inspired to develop the idea because of his love of classic films like Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and American Graffiti.
“The After Party” is produced by Russell Simmons, Jake Stein, Jamie Patricof, Heather Parry, Trevor Engelson, Doug Banker and the late World Star Hip Hop founder Lee “Q” O’Denat. Michael Rapino and Katie McNeill, Jonathan Montepare executive produce.
