Twitch Continues its Push into Political Programming with its Participation in National Voter Registration Day
Twitch will be hosting a round of interviews with politically active community members as part of its participation in Voter Registration Day in partnership with Democracy Works’ TurboVote, an application that makes the voting
registration process easier.
The interviews are set to take place tomorrow September 26, from 3:00 – 5:30 p.m. PDT on Twitch.tv/Twitch. Community members can tune into participating Partner streams– including Geoff, Drako_Gaming, WorkingChef, DarkTwinge, Glacials, and DasValdez— and register online through the TurboVote links on their channels.
“Twitch empowers the community to not only share their creative and gaming passions, but to make their voices heard, whether it’s for charity drives, promoting inclusivity, or building awareness of civic-minded events,” said Brian Petrocelli, Product Marketing Manager at Twitch. “On National Voter Registration Day, we encourage the community to make their voices heard by registering to vote.”
This isn’t the first time the platform has used its reach to encouraged users to be more politically aware. In 2016, the company streamed the Republican and Democratic National Conventions and conducted an event at the White House to raise awareness of health care options. To assist with the discovery of this type of content, Twitch also introduced the Twitch News channel earlier this year when it aired the James Comey hearings.
Assisting with the National Voter Registration Day initiative was Steven Place from creative strategy firm Corillian.
