YouTube Red has acquired “Best Shot,” a basketball docu-series from LeBron James’ SpringHill Entertainment, Boardwalk Pictures, and the digital arm of Warner Bros. Television Group, Blue Ribbon. The eight episode series follows former NBA star and ESPN analyst Jay Williams as he mentors a group of high school basketball players.
“Best Shot,” which is set to debut on the Google-owned platform in 2018, will be directed by Michael John Warren known for his work on the Netflix series “Fearless.”
James and business partner Maverick Carter will executive produce the series through SpringHill Entertainment and Andrew Fried, Dane Lillegard, and Jordan Wynn will executive produce from Boardwalk Pictures (“Chef’s Table,” “Last Chance U”). Warren will also serve as executive producer on the series.
“We’re passionate about this story because it’s about real high school students encountering real-life challenges,” explained Carter, who serves as the CEO of SpringHill. “All they need is that little push in the right direction, and with a relatable mentor like Jay Williams guiding them, they’ve got a very real opportunity to change their lives forever.”
Currently Springhill has a few projects on its plate including NBC’s primetime game show “The Wall”; a HBO documentary on Muhammed Ali, Netflix original “Top Boy,” and Starz Docu-series “Warrior of Liberty.”
