Despite the mixed reviews scattered throughout the internet, Netflix is developing a sequel to “Bright,” the streaming service’s $90 million original film.
Netflix’s “Bright” might have not been a total hit with viewers, but it still attracted the attention of 11 million subscribers in three days. Even though that doesn’t quite match with the viewership other Netflix originals have garnered, such as “Stranger Things,” it was enough for the streaming service to put down another chunk of catch on a sequel that will see Will Smith and Joel Edgerton reprise their roles from the first film.
David Ayer will return to write and direct the second installment, however, writer Max Landis won’t be coming back for the next film. Eric Newman and Bryan Unkeless are set as producers.
Netflix made the announcement by posting a video on Twitter of orcs auditioning for the sequel. Leaked footage of Orc casting confirms the rumors: there will be a sequel to #BrightMovie, the Tweet stated.

According to Netflix, “Bright” is not only the highest-viewed original film ever on the service in its launch week, but is the No. 1 movie on Netflix in every country, with more international than domestic viewers.
No potential release date for the sequel has been revealed at this time.
