Singer Taryn Southern, a YouTube star with more than 500 million combined views across her digital channels, has become one of the first artists to work with artificial intelligence as the sole composition and instrumentation tool on a music album.
In addition to working with AI, the online influencer’s new single, “Life Support,” which is composed entirely of AI, will be accompanied by a VR music video that includes Taryn’s own fMRI brain scans and code. Using a grant from the YouTube Creator VR program, the animation for the new single was built entirely with Tiltbrush and Blocks from award-winning VR animator Danny Bittman. “Life Support” will be included on Southern’s first AI album: I AM AI.
According to Southern, the single was inspired after reading “Ready Player One,” and explores a future of living in a virtual world. Taryn composed the music with Amper, arranged the stems, and wrote the lyrics. Other songs on the album were composed using IBM Watson, Aiva, and Google Magenta.
