Mammoth Media, the company behind Yarn, a micro-storytelling platform with stories delivered as text messages, has appointed Barry Blumberg (pictured) to the role of chief content officer. In his new role, Blumberg will be responsible for all content produced across the company’s existing and developing platforms.
Most recently, Blumberg served as Defy Media’s CCO where he was involved in the creation and expansion of the SMOSH comedy brand. During his time at Defy, he headed the company’s programming strategy for leading brands including Clevver, AWE me, Shut Up! Cartoons, and Screen Junkies. Prior to Defy, Blumberg was president of Walt Disney Television Animation.
“Like many of my peers in entertainment, I’ve been tracking the growth of Mammoth Media and it’s a privilege to be given the opportunity to lead and develop its content identity going forward,” expressed Blumberg. “I have loved the digital space because of the more direct connection between a diverse array of creators and their audiences. Nowhere is this more prevalent than in mobile and I’m tremendously excited by the prospects for this at Mammoth Media.”
In addition to Blumberg’s hire, Mammoth has promoted Talia Koca to VP of Content. In this role she will work closely with Blumberg to set the stage for the company’s creative direction. She will manage and oversee the editorial and social growth of the multiple apps and businesses at Mammoth Media.
