mitú has announced today the hiring of three new employees, as the Latino-focused entertainment company beefs up its executive team. The hires include Zadi Diaz, who becomes vp of digital studio for premium content; Gina Reyes, vp of scripted development for television and film; and Rachel Garcia, vp of marketing and brand strategy.
“These accomplished women will add tremendous expertise as we expand our scripted development, premium digital series and branded marketing efforts,” Mitú president and co-founder Beatriz Acevedo in a statement. “And while we applaud the recent push in Hollywood to achieve 50/50 gender equality by 2020, Mitú is here now, and is a proud outlier in the tech/media space. There is extraordinary diverse talent available for those who look, and with all respect, 50/50 Day should be every day.”
Each of the three women have extensive experience in the digital industry. Diaz previously worked as vp of programming and development at AwesomenessTV and has also served as head of content development at Disney Interactive, where she developed and produced original live-action and animated series across The Walt Disney Co.’s websites and social platforms.
Reyes comes from Univision’s Story House Entertainment, where she worked as director of content development for English and Spanish-language scripted series. Additionally, she spent five years at Fox as director for the Fox Writers Lab, Fox TV Directors Lab and the AFI Filmmakers Lab for Fox Broadcasting Company and 20th Century Fox Television.
Garcia most recently served as vp for marketing and social media at BBC America. In her five years at the company she oversaw multiple national TV, print, out-of-home and online campaigns for the channel’s programs.
The hiring announcement comes off the company’s recent hire of Larry Gelfand as Senior Vice President of Brand Partnerships. In his new role, Gelfand will lead mitú’s eastern territory client portfolio and partner with associated agencies to lead the proposal, negotiation and execution of branded partnerships across the telecommunications, sports, QSR and auto industry categories.
