Tastemade, the digital media company known for its appetizing food related content (though it dabbles in other genres like lifestyle and travel), is bulking up its team in Japan. The company announced today the hiring of Sean Nichols, former head of business development at Amazon Japan and Takao Arai, former sales & marketing manager at Vice Media Japan.
Nichols has been hired on as Tastemade Japan’s Managing Director, while Arai has joined as the market’s first ever Sales Executive. Both will work from Tastemade Japan’s headquarters in Tokyo.
As Managing Director of Tastemade Japan, Nichols will work to expand the brand’s presence with new content formats and genres, and new brand extensions. He will also spearhead and oversee strategic partnerships in an effort to deliver premium quality programming and content across multiple social channels. The 20-year industry veteran brings to the table his experience in content and media marketing, both in the United States with agencies such as Deutsch and Hakuhodo, and in Japan with brands such as the NBA, Blippar and Amazon.
Arai, who will spearhead sales initiatives for the brand across channels, previously worked at VICE where he oversaw developing new business, client management, campaign tracking and analytics, and subscription video on demand service (SVOD) production and promotion.
