Viacom increases reach in Japan via new partnership with Amazon.
Viacom is giving its fans in Japan another way to find its content. Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) today announced a new partnership with the e-commerce giant turned streamer that will see Nickelodeon Japan and MTV MIX become available on Amazon Prime Video Channels in Japan starting tomorrow.
The addition to Amazon Channels, which houses a list of OTT services which can be purchased a la carte, comes just a week after the Channels service launched in the country on June 14.
“OTT video services, like Amazon Prime Video, represent an exciting growth path for our flagship brands in a mature subscription TV market like Japan,” said Mark Whitehead, President and Managing Director, Asia Pacific, VIMN. “It speaks to the ongoing connection between our brands and Japanese viewers that both channels are now available across three major OTT platforms in Japan.”
Amazon Channels presents a new opportunity of discovery for the Viacom brands, which are only available in the country via OTT. In the US, Amazon Channels has proved to be a successful means of discovery for many OTT platforms. According to a recent study from The Diffusion Group, Prime Video Channels accounts for 55 percent of all direct-to-consumer video subscriptions.
