Mic’s Facebook-funded digital series nabs award-winning Journalist Natasha Del Toro
Natasha Del Toro (pictured), the journalist featured in Netflix’s “The Naked Truth” and HBO’s “Outpost,” is set to host “Mic Dispatched,” a twice-weekly news series from digital news company Mic. The series, which will premiere later this month on Facebook Watch, is a correspondent-driven look at the current cultural era. Each episode will feature two stories that focus on change through the lens of social movements and politics.
Mic senior writer Aaron Morrison is expected to contribute work on social and criminal justice movements, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, while Mic co-founder Jake Horowitz will offer newsmaker interviews. Mic senior style editor Evan Ross Katz will explore fashion and the changing LGBTQ landscape.
Del Toro has a long history of producing news driven content. Since 2013, the journalist has reported and produced investigative documentaries for Fusion and most recently she appeared in and produced the Netflix original docuseries “The Naked Truth.”
“Mic Dispatched,” is one of eight news shows that are currently being funded by Facebook. The push into funded news content is part ofthe company’s recent effort to show “news that is trustworthy, informative, and local.” In order to better achieve this goal, the social media giant is in the process of creating a dedicated section within Watch for news shows produced exclusively for Facebook by news publishers.
Begining later this month, new episodes of “Mic Dispatch” will be available every Tuesday and Thursday. Each episode is expected to have a run-time of around 15-minutes.
