As Twitch continues to expand its content offering, DramaFever, an OTT service that specializes in Korean content, sees an opportunity to grow its reach. In a new deal, the Warner Bros-owned streaming service is showcasing 254 episodes from 26
Asian drama series during the month of August. The shows will air every Wednesday through Saturday from August 1st to
the 25th starting at 10:00 am PT on Twitch Presents (twitch.tv/twitchpresents).
“Korean dramas have become a cultural phenomenon outside of Asia based on the fresh plots with frequent cliffhangers, and being a window into the country’s culture, including its fashion, food, and music,” said Jane Weedon, Director of Business Development at Twitch. “Because crossover appeal exists between fans of K-dramas and some of the popular content on Twitch, like Anime, we are fortunate that DramaFever has so many great K-dramas to share with our community.”
The featured DramaFever K-dramas cover a range of genres from romantic comedies and melodramas to crime thrillers with the chronological episode blocks featuring either select episodes or full seasons. This includes episodes of “Goblin: The Lonely” and “Great God,” “Heirs,” and “My Sassy Girl,” to the full series of “Boys Over Flowers,” “Jealousy Incarnate,” “The Best Hit,” “Go Ho’s Starry Night,” “Heart Signal,” “Hospital Ship,” “Longing Heart,” “Missing Nine,” and “Thumping Spike.”
Many studios and content distributors see Twitch’s global user base of 15 Million Daily Active Users as the perfect setting to expand reach and build an audience, regardless of whether or not their content is related to gaming. In fact, the Amazon-owned company has been expanding past gaming-focused programming for some time, hosting an array of marathons with content ranging from “Saturday Night Live” to “Doctor Who.” The social video platform has even launched linear channels on the platform from publishers such as Choppertown, which focuses on biker culture, and Cinedigm, which has two channels on the platform with one of them being dedicated to martial arts.
The DramaFever showcase is available for viewers in the United States, Canada, and Latin America with the broadcast schedule and full list of series and episodes located at www.twitch.tv/twitchpresents.
