HQ Trivia, the app that lets users on mobile phones compete in a live game of trivia for cash prices, is now available on Apple TV, allowing fans to play the game on the biggest screen in the house. According to the company, the game experience on the mobile app will be identical to that on its iOS and Google Play Store apps.
Launched almost a year ago, HQ Trivia quickly shot up to the no.1 US trivia game on the iOS app store. The app, which consists of two daily live trivia contests, was praised for being able to capture the attention of millennials, who were consistently logging into the twice a day. Its daily trivia contests would regularly see audiences of hundreds of thousands participate.
However, HQ Trivia has seen a decline in downloads over the past 6 months, going from over 2 million downloads to just under 600K and is now no. 10 on iOS, which could be part of its reason for launching on Apple TV. Considering viewing hours on connected TVs have increased 115% Y/Y, the company may see the platform as a bridge to new customers.
