Ellation and Viacom Partner on New OTT Channel and Live Events
Nickelodeon is tapping into VRV’s millennial skewing audience to breath life back into its collection 90s cartoon series with a new OTT channel called NickSplat. Under the agreement, Nickelodeon will launch the OTT channel on VRV with content from NickSplat, which is a programming block that airs nightly on TeenNick. The block shows reruns of classic mid-late 1980s, 1990s, and early-mid 2000s children’s programming.
The NickSplat-branded streaming channel will feature a rotating selection of nearly 30 series of Nick’s most popular nostalgic animated and live-action programming, including “AAAHH!!! Real Monsters,” “All That,” “Are You Afraid of the Dark?,” “CatDog,” “Clarissa Explains It All,” “Doug,” “Kenan & Kel,” “Legends of the Hidden Temple,” “Rocko’s Modern Life,” “The Angry Beavers” and “The Wild Thornberrys.” Additional series will be added at a later date.
“Knowing the average age of the VRV audience is mid-twenties, we naturally looked back in time to identify what our users were watching – and there was one clear answer: Nickelodeon,” said Eric Berman, head of content partnerships, VRV, Ellation. “It has been amazing teaming up with Nickelodeon to bring nearly 30 series to the service, so fans can access these incredible hit series from the 1990’s and 2000’s all-together in one destination for the first time ever through the NickSplat channel, on VRV.”
In an effort to promote the new channel, Ellation and Viacom are partnering on a tour with a series of experiential events across the nation. The first live event kicks off in Santa Monica during the weekend of September 7, attendees can enjoy nostalgic cartoons, a cereal bar, and 90’s-themed photoactivation and more. The two companies will announce additional events later in the year.
VRV launched in 2016 to build fans a better universe through a premium, bundled streaming experience. The platform collaborates with both digital-first and traditional media brands and currently offers 12 channels in the VRV Premium bundle including NickSplat, Crunchyroll, Funimation, Rooster Teeth, Shudder and more, alongside exclusive series like “HarmonQuest,” “Killjoys,” “Thundercats,” and “Gary and His Demons” for a monthly subscription of $9.99. Ellation is the parent company of VRV and sister-platform Crunchyroll, and is a part of the Otter Media portfolio.
NickSplat will be available to purchase a la carte for $5.99 per month.
