Amazon is getting a lot of flack for its coverage of the U.S. Open. Consumers viewing the event via Amazon are complaining about the poor picture quality and the inability to record and fully rewind matches. At the time of writing, more than 80 percent of customer reviews gave the highlights show one-star.
Amazon acquired the UK television rights to the U.S. Open earlier this year in a deal which was said to be worth $40 million. It is part of a big move into sports coverage that saw the company bag Premier League rights in June. The company also recently hired ESPN alum Marie Donoghue as its new vice president overseeing global sports programming.
However, the poor reviews show that Amazon has a ways to go if it wants to be a destination for live sports coverage.
“We are working with customers to address specific issues — we listen to all customer feedback and are always working to improve all aspects of our service,” said a spokesperson for the company.
