Miramax to Manage Rights to Samuel Goldwyn Film Library

Library includes films by Samuel Goldwyn, the Oscar-winning producer and studio executive from the golden age of Hollywood

Miramax will manage the rights to such classic films as "The Pride of the Yankees" and "The Best Years of Our Lives" as part of a new deal with  the Samuel Goldwyn Jr. Family Trust.

The library includes films produced by Samuel Goldwyn, the Oscar-winning producer and studio executive from the golden age of Hollywood.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Miramax will license the films across television and digital platforms, much as it has done with its own library of more modern classics such as "Pulp Fiction" and "The English Patient."

Other notable Goldwyn titles include the musical "Guys and Dolls," the romantic comedy "The Bishop’s Wife," and the Southern drama "The Little Foxes."

Since its purchase in 2010 by a group of investors that included billionaire Ron Tutor, Miramax has mostly been concerned with leveraging its library or finding partners to produce sequels or remakes of its former films. It has not developed new projects.

The deal with Goldwyn indicates it is also willing to take on the role of distribution broker, handling the libraries of smaller companies.

“We believe this agreement underscores the strength of the sales organization we have built and is a testament to its success across multiple platforms worldwide. We’re privileged and proud to be a part of the Goldwyn legacy," Joe Patrick, head of worldwide sales at Miramax, said in a statement.
