‘Money Drop’ Host: They Would Have Lost Anyway

Questions why couple who lost $800,000 on right answer wouldn’t return to show

"Million Dollar Money Drop" host Kevin Pollak says the couple who lost $800,000 on a question that turned out to be correct would have lost the money anyway, since they got the question that followed it wrong.

"They never had a chance to win that money. Ever. No matter what," Pollak told The Hollywood Reporter. "They got the last question wrong. None of the clips show the last question."

Widely circulated clips of Gabe Okoye and Brittany Mayti show their despair after they correctly answer a question by saying Post-It notes were sold in stores before the Sony Walkman or Macintosh Computer — which turned out to be correct. The show said the Walkman was sold first.

But Pollak said they would have ultimately lost the money even if they were credited with the Post It answer, since they answered the next question wrong.

"This story is a moot point. They lost everything on the next question. It's a non-story." says Pollak. "There's one aspect of the story that hasn't been covered that much."

The couple said on CNN on Tuesday morning that they haven't decided on whether to accept Fox's invitation to return to the show — and haven't decided whether to sue.

Pollak said he was glad they were offered a second chance, but questioned why they wouldn't accept it.

"But now they are saying there's too much pressure? Oh my God! Way to get the country to turn against you," Pollak said. "That's interesting, they would make such a stink and then ultimately maybe not come back."
