The Lonely Island took the stage at the MTV Movie Awards to sing a medley of a pile of old Will Smith songs, before handing Will Smith the Generations Award, the MTV Movie Awards’ sort of hip version of a lifetime achievement award.
The medley included the theme from “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” “Summertime,” “Men in Black” and, finally, “Jiggy.”
The three members of The Lonely Island — Akiva Schaffer, Andy Samberg, and Jorma Taccone — wore appropriately ’90s attire, overalls over erratically patterned collared shirts.
The group, hired as writers on “Saturday Night Live” starting in 2005, made a big impression with short music videos like “Lazy Sunday” and “Dick in a Box.”
Their new movie, “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping,” is due in theaters on June 3.
