NBC has given a greenlight to new reality singing competition series “The Stream,” which has a heavy online component.
The new reality show will invite anyone to upload videos of themselves singing, which will become instantly available to the public to view and share.
The top 100 most-streamed artists will be invited to showcase their talents in front of a panel of industry judges, who will then whittle the pool down to 30.
When each judge has chosen three of their top musicians, those finalists will compete in a week to week elimination-style competition, determined by the number of streams. The winner will be the most-streamed artist of the competition.

“‘The Stream’ brilliantly uses technology and social media to draw music lovers in and make them a part of the process,” said Paul Telegdy, President, Alternative and Reality Group, NBC Entertainment. “We’re excited to discover talent in this modern way and connect the best artists with the industry’s top starmakers.”
Based on a successful Norwegian format, “The Stream” is produced by Universal Television Alternative Studio in association with Monster, TV2, Nordic World and Little Hill.
