Noam Chomsky Makes Michel Gondry Feel ‘Stupid’ in ‘Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy?’ Trailer (Video)

The French filmmaker’s animated documentary features a mind-bending conversation with the famed MIT professor and philosopher

“Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” director Michel Gondry lends his unique cinematic vision to documentary filmmaking with his next film, “Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy?”

The first trailer for the film — an animated conversation with smarty-pants philosopher and linguistics expert  Noam Chomsky — features Gondry’s subject blowing his mind with questions of perception vs. reality.

“How do we identify something as a tree?” Chomsky asks. “You plant a tree, it grows, you cut a branch off it and you put that branch in the ground. Suppose it grows and it becomes exactly identical to the original tree. Is that new one the same willow tree? Why not? It’s not that simple.”

“As you can see, I felt a bit stupid here,” Gondry says.

Sundance Selects is releasing Gondry’s discussion about life with Chomsky in theaters, iTunes and VOD on Nov. 22.
