Obama Doing ‘Tonight Show’ Wednesday

President visits Jay Leno two days after last debate

President Obama will appear on "The Tonight Show" Wednesday, two days after tonight's final debate of his presidency.

Just as Obama appeared on "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart" two days after the second debate last week, he'll make another attempt to connect with a late-night audience this week. Whether he wins or loses the election, tonight's debate will be his last one.

Late-night shows should be friendlier territory than a debate stage. But they still leave room for gaffes.

On "The Daily Show," Obama referred to the deaths of four Americans in Libya as "not optimal" after Stewart used that phrase to describe the administration's attempts to explain its changing understanding of what happened in Benghazi, Libya.

Conservatives seized on the phrase to suggest the president was understating the seriousness of the issue.
