‘One Life to Live’ Star Nathaniel Marston ‘Will Likely Live Out His Life as a Quadriplegic’ After Car Crash

“The relatively positive prognosis which followed his previous surgery has dimmed,” actor’s mother says

“One Life to Live” star Nathaniel Marston is expected to be paralyzed after being seriously injured in a car crash on Oct. 30.

Marston underwent surgery on Nov. 4, but it did not go as planned and he will “most likely live out his life as a quadriplegic,” his mother, Elizabeth Jackson said Tuesday.

“In the early morning hours of November 5 his heart stopped on two separate occasions requiring doctors to use an external pacemaker to regulate his heartbeat,” Jackson told Entertainment Tonight. “He remains in critical condition, fighting pneumonia, a heart infection and irregular pulse. The relatively positive prognosis which followed his previous surgery has dimmed.”

Despite the bad news, Jackson remains “optimistic” as Nathaniel is awake and communicating. “[He is] able to mouth sentences since having the breathing tube removed from his mouth and relocated to his throat via a tracheotomy,” she added.

The 40-year-old ABC soap star was involved in crash in Reno, Nevada, late last month that left his back and neck broken in several places, along with “other internal injuries.”

He was scheduled to have additional surgery on Wednesday to reduce the pressure on his brain, according to Jackson’s Facebook page.

Marston played Eddie Silva on “As the World Turns,” earning a Soap Opera Digest Award nomination as Outstanding Male Newcomer in 1998. He picked up another nomination for his role as Michael McBain on “One Life to Live.” He left the show in 2007.

Since the accident, a GoFundMe campaign has been created to “pay monthly bills as well as any unexpected expenses as they occur.” The site has already raised over $9,000.
