‘The House’ Star Jason Mantzoukas Is ‘Bummed’ That Will Ferrell Film Bombed

At the start of the summer, “The House” seemed poised to be among the season’s breakout comedies. Alas, that wasn’t quite the case, as the Will Ferrell-Amy Poehler film was poorly received critically and commercially.

“I was bummed,” co-star Jason Mantzoukas told TheWrap about the movie fizzling. “It’s everything from, all these great people putting in all this great work, to I think there’s really funny stuff in that movie. So it’s a bummer when it comes out and underperforms and isn’t received how you want it to be.”

In the film that is available today on DVD and Blu-ray, Mantzoukas plays Frank, whose best friend Scott (Ferrell) and wife Kate (Poehler) open an underground casino to pay for their daughter’s college tuition.

“But that’s the bummer of all of it,” the “League” alum continued. “You’re constantly lobbing stuff up into the air, and you hope that people kind of catch it — sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t — but I really enjoyed that movie, both making and watching. We had a great time.”

Mantzoukas can also be heard as the voice of Jay on Netflix’s puberty-centric animated series “Big Mouth,” and he told TheWrap that he has trouble narrowing down the craziest scene for his sex-focused character.

“I don’t know only because there are so many for a character that has — spoiler alert — quite a bit of sex with various cushions and other objects,” the actor quipped.

“The House” is now available on DVD and VOD. “Big Mouth” is currently streaming on Netflix.
