Sally Field has become the latest awards-season hopeful to land a tribute at one of the January film festivals that jockey for potential nominees, scoring the Palm Springs International Film Festival's Career Achievement Award in the wake of her performance in Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln."
On Monday, Field was named the year's best supporting actress by the New York Film Critics Circle for her performance as Abraham Lincoln's high-strung wife, Mary Todd Lincoln.
Field joins previously-announced PSIFF honorees Helen Hunt, Naomi Watts, Robert Zemeckis and the cast of "Argo."

In the past, Palm Springs' Career Achievement Award winners have included Glenn Close, Robert Duvall, Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman and Helen Mirren.
The Santa Barbara International Film Festival, which runs at the end of January, three weeks later than PSIFF, has announced tributes to Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lawrence.
Field, who began her career in television with series roles in "Gidget" and "The Flying Nun," won Best Actress Oscars for "Norma Rae" in 1979 and "Places in the Heart" in 1984. In recent years she has been more visible on television, particularly in the series "Brothers & Sisters," than on the big screen.
The actress campaigned vigorously for her role in "Lincoln," persuading Spielberg that she wasn't too old to play the part. (At 66, she is 11 years older than Daniel Day-Lewis, who plays Abraham Lincoln; the real Mary Todd Lincoln was nine years younger than her husband.)
Field will receive her award at the PSIFF Awards Gala on Jan. 5, 2013 at the Palm Springs Convention Center.
