Paul Giamatti is looking to go on a rampage as the Rhino in the sequel to "The Amazing Spider-Man," a spokesman for Sony Pictures told TheWrap.

Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield will return as Gwen Stacey and Spider-Man, with Marc Webb once again handling directing duties.

In addition to Giamatti, Felicity Jones, the English star of 2011's "Like Crazy," is in talks to appear in the film.

The Rhino, with his augmented strength and polymer mat suit and horn, would be a departure for Giamatti who has cornered the market on schlubby everymen in dramas like "Sideways" and "Win Win." But it is a part he has long coveted.

In 2011, he told ShowbizSpy, "If they ever go with The Rhino I would be ready and waiting."

Negotiations with Giamatti and Jones were first reported by the Hollywood Reporter.

Filming on "The Amazing Spider-Man" sequel is scheduled to start in February.
