‘Percy’ and ‘Hot Tub’ Top DVD Charts

“The Crazies” also debuts strongly, while “New Moon” still shows signs of life

A pair of new releases — kids film ”Percy Jackson & the Olympians” and gross-out comedy “Hot Tub Time Machine” — dominated the DVD rentals and sales charts last week, according to Rentrak.

The week’s other new film, horror movie “The Crazies,” scared up enough sales and rentals to claim the third and fifth slots, respectively.

Bolstered, no doubt, by the release last week of “Eclipse,” “New Moon,” the second film in the mega-grossing “Twilight” franchise, climbed back onto the sales charts. In its 15th week of release, “New Moon” was the eighth best-selling DVD. The vampire romance sequel has sold 7.2 million discs since it debuted in March, making it the second best-selling disc this year behind only “Avatar.”

Next week brings the DVD release of the Oscar-nominated drama “A Single Man” and the foreign-language adaptation of the best-selling detective book “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.”
