Polanski Denied Bail by Swiss Court

Director, dubbed “flight risk,” has 10 days to appeal decision.

A Swiss court has refused to release Roman Polanski on bail pending an extradition battle, saying he poses a high flight risk, according to court documents.

The Swiss Criminal Court said measures such as revoking the director’s travel documents and requiring him to report daily to the police would not reduce the possibility that he would flee.

Polanski was arrested in Switzerland last month on a U.S. arrest warrant stemming from his 1977 conviction in a sex case and is fighting extradition.

He has 10 days to appeal the decision, said Folco Galli, the spokesman for the Swiss Justice Ministry.
